I Was Tagged

Ok, I'll play. Lisa tagged me so here are her questions and my answers...


1. What's your best memory as a small child? Getting a bike for Christmas. That's the only thing I can think of that was really great other than getting to visit my grandparents.


2.What or who can you think of and a smile instantly comes to your face? My grandson...of course.

3.Have you ever been arrested? Nope, thank goodness.

4.What is the most scared you have ever been? When my son was in an altercation and his ride left him in Florida with no way home.

5.What "creature" would you not voluntarily hold for $1000? Any snake. Period. And there are others...

6.What kind of cell do you have? If any. Tracfone. I really threw my feet out!

7. What's your favorite past time? Sewing.

8. Do you collect anything? Chickadees

I Can Post it Now

When I posted the photos of J and K's tree, Erin saw it and mentioned she'd like to have one.

Since she is LeLe's BFF and she's a sweetie, I told her I'd make her one for a wedding gift. She wanted it to be a surprise, so I had to wait until her wedding to post the pictures. She and her man married today at 11:00 a.m. and so I can post it now.

Congratulations to Erin and Chris! I hope you have 50+ years of wedded bliss!

Bluebird

Remember this tray?

The one I bought for $18.00? (Ouch) I planned to use it on this table, but didn't like how it looked.

This is what it looks like now....

I plan to somehow hang it on the backporch. I don't know how I'm going to do that yet.

First, I painted the entire thing blue, and then blocked in the areas I wanted to paint.

I began with the leaves and branch, then moved on to the dogwood blooms.

Finally, I worked on the bird.

So, here is a photo that shows how large this tray actually is. It's sitting in SR's large recliner.

I want to coat it with a sealer, simply to make sure it weathers well. It will be under the porch roof, but you can't be too careful. After all the work, I sure wouldn't want it to peel off.

I'm lovin' this a lot. And since it had been a while since I painted anything, I enjoyed the process.

Tag Blanket

I was excited when I saw this post for a tag blanket. And decided I was ordained to make one for LMW.
Larissa did a superb job with the tutorial on Just Another Day in Paradise.

Since I didn't have all the fluffy soft fabric she used, I decided to just use what I had in my stash. I did purchase ribbon on clearance at Walmart for $1.00 a roll. That was a great find! Because the back was simple cotton fabric, I inserted a piece of tee shirt fabric from an old shirt I had.  I sewed this inside the two pieces of cotton and it gives it a little weight.

Hopefully, LMW will like it as well. And it will be a great idea for shower gifts. Thanks Larissa! (sorry I don't know how to grab your button and make it work...)

UPDATE:
On the wisteria quilt....after several hours of hand basting, I've decided not to try to machine quilt it. I am going to use the tack and tie method using either regular knitting or crewel yarn. This way, all the potential puckers I see already, will not wind up ruining the look of the quilt, and it will still have a nice grid on the back. And it's something I can do comfortably while I sit in the recliner in the evenings.

Old to New

Last week, SR and I went to a flea market in Jacksonville. We found some pretty good things, one being a solid wood high chair in excellent condition. SR had wanted to buy LMW a wooden one, and all the antique ones were either wayyy over priced, or in terrible condition. This one wasn't antique, but it is solid.

We brought it home and cleaned it up. The tray needed a new coat of sealer, so we did that, and I made cushions for it.

$20.00 for the chair, about $6.00 of fabric and accessories and Ta-Da!

Jewelry Holder

I've seen neat little home made jewelry holders all over the blog world, and wanted to make one for myself. I just didn't know how I wanted to go about it.

Low and behold, my mother-in-law gave me two drawers from an old sewing maching cabinet.

I didn't know I wanted to make jewelry holders out of them for several days. Then a bolt of lightening hit me out of the clear blue sky I had an idea. They would make great necklace holders hanging beside my dresser. And I could get rid of the huge ugly jewelry box I've been using.

Soo, I got busy with scrapbook paper and modge podge.....
I cut the paper to fit the inside of the drawer, then painted a coat of the modge podge on the bottom of the drawer. I laid the paper inside, then gave it a coat of modge podge as well.

I intended to use cup hooks for the hangers, but the bottom/backs of the drawers were too thin and flimsy. I purchased instead, some small peel and stick hangers. They worked great and were only $.97 for 9.  I will need to buy another package, so I can add a few more to the second box, but all in all, this project will cost me all of $2.00.

Quick Tees

I've been pretty tied up, trying to get my Mom's wisteria quilt ready for the machine, and keeping LMW. But, I was able to finish a couple of embellished tees.

After finishing them, I realized I probably should have switched the designs. The blue on blue and the bluegreen on bluegreen. But oh well. At least I was able to finish something in all the chaos.
