An Extra Item

When I revised my May for Me goals list, I took off the bedding project for LMW's bed. Well folks, I actually got that done yesterday. My sister and I postponed our date, and I worked on the quilt.
It's hanging a little uneven, but you can see it this way better. The dimensions may be a little off  for the vehicles, but he loved it and wanted to put it on his bed immediately. I had a blast doing this.
I did quite a bit of fmq because I didn't want a grid pattern on it. I wanted to highlight the different shades in the fabric.
And I wanted to give the illusion of the palest of clouds in the sky.
I should have used a dark thread in the bobbin, but LMW doesn't care and I learned yet another tip about doing these sorts of quilts. I put this one together differently, and decided to use regular grosgrain ribbon on the edge.
LeLe liked it, LMW liked it, SR liked it and I do too! So that's all the counts. Now, LMW has a car/race car/truck/backhoe quilt for his race car bed.
And I have one item left on my goals list. That will be accomplished tomorrow.

A Sunday Afternoon

This afternoon, I spent a little time doing what I wanted. That is what May for Me is all about right? And Sunday afternoons are for keeping the Sabbath and I consider doing what you love to be doing just that. After all, the Lord gifted you with your talents and interests, so it seems fitting to enjoy them on His day.
I wanted a little painting of the beach to go with my flea market finds, so I just took out my painting supplies and started moving the brush. I wasn't sure what I would wind up with, because to be honest, I normally have something to look at, something to try to reproduce in my own way. This came to my mind's eye and I have to tell you, I was a little surprised.  I've seen photos similar to this, but I didn't look at any of them while I was painting.
I'm just so pleased with my effort. It's no Monet or Van Gogh, but it makes me happy.

Christmas in May

Since I've been on an applique kick lately, I thought I'd do something of that nature for my May Christmas project.
The color is off a bit in this photo, I suppose it's due to the aqua wall, but the towel is actually a sage green.
I just used my trusty Wonder Under and a zig zag stitch. It was fun coming up with the designs for these. And you know, it's amazing what a little rick-rack will do for something. It makes all the difference sometimes.
I now have some fun towels to hang up in the bathroom around Christmas time!

In a recent post I shared some kitchen towels that were for my friend Y. What she didn't know at the time, was that there was more in her package than she thought. Here is all that was mailed to her.
Included in her pack was a Razorback and a Saints Onesie for her grandson and a few mug rugs as well. I think she was well pleased. *grin*

I'm On a Roll...

Another item on the May for Me to-do list bites the dust! My kindle cover.
I viewed several tutorials, and then decided to just wing it. I think I'll follow the instructions a little more closely next time. It turned out well enough for me, but I could have done better.
It was a learning process and it was fun! I added a little pocket in case I want to carry the charging cord with me somewhere.

Mark Through Another One

Another item on my May for Me list is completed.
I can't explain why, but this one was a little temperamental. I'm not sure I like the webbing I used for stability and if I do another one, I may just baste it by hand before sewing, instead. It makes for a softer, easier to handle quilt.

This one is a bit heavier than I usually like, but it's solid and will be very warm. I hope my friend will be pleased with it.

While He Was Sleeping

Seems I'm on an applique merry-go-round and can't get off. While LMW took his afternoon siesta, Nanna fixed him up a shirt. He has two octopus shirts and loves to wear them, but they are jammy tops, so he needed something for wearing out of the house.
Basically, I just free handed a little squiggly being, used "wonder under" to adhere it, and zig-zagged around it. I zigged a little mouth for him, then used puff paint to make his eyes and tie. I would rather have used a simple tee, but a pocket shirt was all Walmart offered that was in a solid color.

When he saw it, he immediately wanted to put on his "Ock-pus shut"...

Productive Thursday

I whittled down my May for Me list a little more today. I completed two big sets of kitchen towels for a couple of friends. One group was a commission, one was not, but I enjoyed doing it all.
Razorbacks and Saints. Quite a combination!

Sea life towels, pot holders and mug rugs. I love these so much, I might just make myself a few before May is over!! I already made myself a razorback or two. *grin*
I practiced my FMQ again on these and I had a blast!
I'm kinda tickled at how the backs look. I didn't expect that and was pleasantly surprised. I still have a long row to hoe in the practice department, but it sure is fun.

I was also able to get the second tee shirt quilt pin basted and ready to quilt. Yoo hoo for a productive day!!

Chair Re-Do

I finished my first May for Me project. Yippee!! One thing I can cross off my list!

Let's revisit this chair in the beginning. Dull, stained, get the idea.
It belonged to my grandparents, and then my mother.  It wasn't an heirloom, as they went in together to purchase it when I was a small child, so I didn't have any qualms about overhauling it. And this is what I did with it....
I'm tickled pink at how it turned out. I wanted something with beachy colors, but not a beachy theme. I think I accomplished that.
This is the little corner in my room, where I visit with you all, and reminisce about the beach trip last summer. I also plan my beach trip next summer here. But mostly, I interact with my blogger friends, and edit all my LMW photos. *grin*
See my "May for ME" desktop?!  I even had enough fabric to replace the black and white skirt in the knee well. How cool is that?! I finally have this area just how I want it.
So there you have it folks! My first to-do on the list marked through. Woo Hoo! Happy May for ME!!!
